The LaPerm Cat is a wonderful breedof cat for many reasons. I wish that each and every person that came to this site could reach out and touch one, hold it, hear it curl and get to know the magic of the LaPerm. They truly grab your heart and stay there forever.
This little known rare breed is a true find of the cat fancy and our hopes is that more people will come to the know the breed and experience the wonder for theimselves..
The cat is one of the Rex Breeds. For those of you that don't know what that means it is because of their culy coat. The y are a different breed than the Selkirk and should not be confused with that breed. The genes are different.
The breed was discovered by a lady by the name of Linda Kohl of Oregon and she has spent her life working on developing the breed and also trying to promote the breed. She found her first cat rooming her orchard and it has forever changed her life . This sweet breed of cat seems to hav that affect on anyone that comes into contact with them.
I know for us personally we were so driven to have one that se spent years and that was just because of some photos we had seen to have one in our homes.
The hair or coat on the LaPerm changes much from when they are akitten. In fact the coat sets for the pet person after their kitten is altered and the curlys usually become more pronounced and defined when the cat is fixed. The coat comes in two lengths and each length is a class to show in within CFA or TICA. The long coat is better known but some LaPerm Breeders are working hard on the shorter coat and that is important because that part of the breed should not be lost.
They are a smaller cat and many feel it makes them purrfect for apartments and people that live in cities. The male is on average 10 pounds and the female is about 6 pounds.
This cat shold not be an outdoors cats. They are so gentle natured that they do not do well with what can befallthem out in the big wide world. They are very trusting and loving and think that everyone loves them and that there is no reason to be afraid. They love all that they met. My husband claims they are the flower children of teh cat world. lol! I think for a large part he is right.
